SCS is a third party administrator focusing on claims processing and administration. We are a recognized industry leader in all aspects of asbestos bodily injury claims processing, for both solvent and bankrupt asbestos defendants.

We are a liaison between clients, insurance carriers, defense counsel, and plaintiff counsel in asbestos, long term exposure, silica and other toxic tort matters, as well as general liability claims. SCS handles all aspects of asbestos bodily injury claim processing for a large and representative array of asbestos defendants, some of which are now working through Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings. SCS was appointed by the bankruptcy court to serve as fund administrator of the JM Insurers Direct Action Settlement Trust. Additionally, SCS administers Joint Medical Defense funds.

Claims are managed efficiently using customized databases to document and process information, and to provide reporting tailored to each client’s needs.

Donald E. Ward, Founder and President, Special Claim Services, Inc.
Don has been directly involved in the evaluation and resolution of tens of thousands of asbestos bodily injury cases for more than 35 years. He has worked with numerous plaintiff counsel, special masters, and State and Federal judges, and has been instrumental in the formation of various defense groups. Don has drafted and handled the administration of many settlement agreements. He works regularly with clients in the development of strategic plans both regionally and nationally. This includes both defense and settlement strategies. Don has served as a consultant in coverage and insurance litigation. Prior to forming SCS, he spent 25 years with a major insurance carrier.


Alan B. Parker, VP - Claims, Special Claims Services, Inc.
Alan joined SCS after 30 years in private law practice where he consulted and advised in the management of contemporary business concerns including technology, internet and social media; privacy and information management; insurance coverage; disputes involving intellectual property infringement and misappropriation; and trademark, copyright, trade secret and other IP management. He also has extensive experience litigating and trying high stake disputes, including product liability, pharma and medical liability, business torts, intellectual property, commercial litigation, professional liability, and personal injury cases.


Lori Hebert, VP - Processing and Administration, Special Claims Services, Inc.
During her 17 years with Special Claims Services, Lori has implemented conversions to several automated processes for claims handling as well as set up reporting and routing strategies to report claim intake and payments. She has developed and maintains databases for asbestos/silica medical defense funds that calculate specific payment allocations and perform billing and reporting functions. Lori is responsible for managing, training, scheduling and maintaining information for the SCS team. She offers an analytical approach to processes and procedures for efficient data handling together with an employee management style needed to support such operations.


Angie Ward, Secretary/Assistant Treasurer, Special Claims Services, Inc.

Angie oversees all office functions including hiring, training, leasing, purchasing, banking and accounting. She maintains an accounting program involving accounts receivable, accounts payable and initiates payment of loss and defense costs for all claims accounts. Her experience in banking and accounting with an eye for detail and deadlines are instrumental to claims processing payments. Angie has worked with SCS for 25 years and her previous work history includes medical business accounts, as well as 10 years in the sales/service, national sales, claims and legal departments of a major insurance carrier.

In addition, Special Claims Services employs experienced analysts, trained claim technicians and claim processors to meet the needs of a fast moving, high volume claims management system.
