SCS is a third party administrator focusing on claims processing and administration. We are a recognized industry leader in all aspects of asbestos bodily injury claims processing, for both solvent and bankrupt asbestos defendants.

We are a liaison between clients, insurance carriers, defense counsel, and plaintiff counsel in asbestos, long term exposure, silica and other toxic tort matters, as well as general liability claims. SCS handles all aspects of asbestos bodily injury claim processing for a large and representative array of asbestos defendants, some of which are now working through Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings. SCS was appointed by the bankruptcy court to serve as fund administrator of the JM Insurers Direct Action Settlement Trust. Additionally, SCS administers Joint Medical Defense funds.

Claims are managed efficiently using customized databases to document and process information, and to provide reporting tailored to each client’s needs.

Alan B. Parker, VP - Claims, Special Claims Services, Inc.
Alan joined SCS after 30 years in private law practice where he consulted and advised in the management of contemporary business concerns including technology, internet and social media; privacy and information management; insurance coverage; disputes involving intellectual property infringement and misappropriation; and trademark, copyright, trade secret and other IP management. He also has extensive experience litigating and trying high stake disputes, including product liability, pharma and medical liability, business torts, intellectual property, commercial litigation, professional liability, and personal injury cases.


Lori Hebert, VP - Processing and Administration, Special Claims Services, Inc.
During her 20+ years with Special Claims Services, Lori has implemented conversions to several automated processes for claims handling as well as set up reporting and routing strategies to report claim intake and payments. She has developed and maintains databases for asbestos/silica medical defense funds that calculate specific payment allocations and perform billing and reporting functions. Lori is responsible for managing, training, scheduling and maintaining information for the SCS team. She oversees all office functions including hiring, training, purchasing, banking and accounting as well as initiates payment of loss and defense costs for all claims accounts. Lori offers an analytical approach to processes and procedures for efficient data handling together with an employee management style needed to support such operations.


Lisa Piper, Treasurer, Special Claims Services, Inc.
Lisa joined SCS as a claims analyst, organizing data and procedures for new accounts and special projects. She managed the data and distribution for the JM Insurers Direct Action Settlement Trust. Lisa maintains an accounting program involving accounts receivable and accounts payable and handles cash movement and deposits. Her office administrative experience along with an eye for detail and process improvement is instrumental to streamlining procedures and controlling costs.


David McKnight, Claims Consultant, Special Claim Services, Inc.
Prior to joining SCS, David served as vice-president of a leading global professional services firm and has been directly involved in the development, review, analysis, implementation and administration of asbestos litigation strategy for more than 25 years. He has led the negotiation of settlement agreements with plaintiff attorneys, given direction to defense counsel, liaised with the client’s Legal and Risk Management Departments, led communication and presentations to excess insurers, coordinated special projects, performed policy archaeology, risk profiling, policy mapping, coverage review/analysis, policy buy-backs and negotiation of Coverage-In-Place and Cost Sharing Agreements. He has worked in actuarial consulting assisting defendants in asbestos litigation estimate their ultimate asbestos liability reserves.
